Obituary of Virginia May Bowers
Virginia May Rose Bowers, age 85, of Clarksville, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2013. She was born on March 24, 1928 to Willard Mabry and Anna Virginia Rose in Clarksville. She was raised in the Mabry Community named for her great-grandfather. Virginia married Ben F. Bowers on November 8, 1947 and celebrated 62 years of marriage. Together with her husband, they not only raised their own children, but cared for grandchildren, nieces, nephews and little cousins whenever needed. When her children were young, she was active in the PTA, CHS Band Boosters, Girl Scouts and member of the Ladies Hospital Auxiliary. She had been a member of New Shamrock Presbyterian Church, First Christian Church and First Presbyterian Church of Clarksville; all where she devoted much time. She cared for her parents in their later years with great love and devotion. She loved attending the annual Mabry Homecoming and was instrumental in obtaining a historical marker from the State of Texas for New Shamrock Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her granddaughter Dana Rae Bowers, two brothers Kenneth and Leonard Rose and her brother-in-law Bud Jones.
Survivors include her son, David Bowers and wife Rogena of Clarksville; her daughter, Deborah Broomfield and husband Bobby of Avery; her grandchildren, Emily Vickers, Carly Vickers, Ryan Bowers, Michaela Bowers, Bobbie Ann Broomfield, Toni and Cody Cameron, Talisha and Joe Alsup; 6 great grandchildren and one on the way; her sister, Dora Jones of Weatherford; her brother, Dan Rose and wife Shirley of Mesquite; her sister-in-laws Margaret Rose of Clarksville, Dorothy Rose of Soldotna, Alaska and Mary Virginia Bowers of Hugo, Oklahoma and many dearly loved family and friends.
Funeral services are set for 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 31, 2013, at the New Shamrock Presbyterian Church with Rev. Don Shovan officiating. Burial will follow in New Shamrock Cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Ryan Bartlett, Joe Alsup, Jerry Steward, R.L. Broomfield, Bill Peek, Michael Carlton and Sammy Gist.
