Obituary of Billy Joe Mitchell

Billy Joe Mitchell, age 91, of Clarksville, passed away Monday, April 02, 2018, at his residence.  Mr. Mitchell was born, October 20, 1926, in Red River County to Ross George and Ruby Bauske Mitchell.  Billy Joe was a hardworking man. He was the owner of Mitchell’s Mill north of Clarksville.  He was truly a man of godly principles who considered the word of God to be the complete, the final and absolute truth.  The bar he set for those of us who knew him is extremely high and one that he tirelessly strived to meet as he considered himself to be no more than a mere servant and slave of his God, the Lord Jesus Christ.   He was the oldest member of the New Haven Missionary Baptist Church where he attended all of his life.  He taught the Adult Sunday School Class for numerous years and was known as the “man that could fix anything”. Mr. Mitchell served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII and was discharged on December 11, 1946.  He received several honors while serving in the war; Asiatic Pacific Compain Ribbon, Philippine Independence Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Ribbon and 2 overseas bars.

Funeral services are set for 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 5, 2018, at the New Haven Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. John Ross Mitchell, Bro. James Hinkle and Bro. Dennis McClintic officiating.  Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends and hour before service time at the church.

Pallbearers are Richard Fryar, Steve Raulston, Freddy Rodriquez, Jay Smith, Jerry Steed, Joel Steed, Raymond Long and Jason Steed.
