Mr. Spencer was my history teacher and was one of the best teachers in Clarksville High School. He made history easy to learn while also making it fun. RIP Mr. Spencer. You are remembered by lots of people.

I well remember Mr. Spencer as my high school American history and government teacher and as a fellow classical music lover. He was a very knowledgeable teacher and a really nice person.

Mr. Spencer was a wonderful teacher and true gentleman. He was gentle and kind, never critical of his students, and had a gift for sharing his knowledge.

My sister and I recently visited with Elden in Sherman and had such fun sharing our many memories. He was truly a wonderful man and great friend. We will miss him, but I know he is having a wonderful reunion with his family and friends in heaven.

Elden Spencer was not blood kin but he was family. Three generations of Parks and O'Neills grew up next door to three generations of Gordons and Spencers, occupying the 700 block of W. Broadway. My dad, Ned O'Neill, was 8 years older than Elden and was truly an older brother to Elden and Gordon, taking them fishing and hunting and other activities. Elden was one of the kindest and most thoughtful people I have known. He and my grandmother were very close, and he was so good to sit and visit with her whenever he could. When I would visit in the summers, he would take his mother Mildred, my grandmother and me for Sunday drives. He and my dad were in touch through all of the years, and he called my dad often during his last years. Elden was always interesting to talk with, contributed so much to so many and will be greatly missed.

Mr. Spencer was a part of my life from my earliest memories of attending Clarksville' First Christian Church where he also attended. I recall his smile, his sense of humor, and his gentle disposition. His history class was a favorite among my classmates. Mr. Spencer left many other grateful students. He was truly a gentleman. He smiles down on us now.

Mr. Spencer presented a gentle affect. I always wondered whether he was just born that way or whether his experiences in the Pacific War somehow informed his choices toward a path that better disguised an inner toughness. His records of service as a young man, as a mature man, and as an elder speak for themselves. I regret that he left teaching in Clarksville before I got to take his American history class. I considered him a model to be copied.
I am sorrowed at his passing, but happy for his life.

He will always be "Mr. Spencer" to me.
I was in one of his classes at Clarksville High School about 60 years ago. He impressed me as a good teacher and a gentleman.
I am pleased to learn that he lived so long. I hope they were happy years.
