What a wonderful family man,I will miss his quick wit, wisdom and handsome smile. I considered it a privilege to have known him. Our hearts miss him, but I know he is walking in glory that we cannot even imagine.
(Hope he puts in a good word for me, I did ask him to, but Miss Sue says it doesn't work that way.)

Ray Steed, Papa, always was an inspiration for me during the 35 years of being associated with the family. He was funny at times serious at times, fatherly at times and always observant. He taught me to ride better to shoot better, to fish smarter, be still when hunting, be stronger, sharpen knives properly and never call him by his first name. I saw his views of practicality. Especially, dealing with nature. He absolutely loved his dogs and cried when they left earth. He was proud of his family and loved his wife and all the children with all his being. I knew, if I truly needed help he would step in, and my children were in his good hands when they were with him. I loved to see him shine when a new baby came into the family. He could be so gentle, so protective, so stern all in the same day about the same incident. And he was never shy about expressing his thoughts. I still smile remembering his head stands on his birthdays! Only once did I scold him when I found Trent at age 7, taking “ learning to motorcycle by Papa “ course. He just looked at me , laughed and said, “ calm down momma. We got this!” I did what I never had done before and left them to it. Trent learned well.
He loved Jessica his oldest grandchild so much. She was wiggly, but he got her calm enough to sleep on his shoulder which was a miracle! He gave her so much love and patience. I would spy on them and sigh. Those bonds were so so good.
I love him, miss him, but oh so glad he has risen. Amen

I remember Mr. Steed as a man of great passion for the Lord, and wonderful humor in life. I believe him and Sue raised their children with faith in God and the Bible. I am sure he will be missed by all that knew him. Joel, my heart goes out to you. Your Dad was one of a kind.

Dear Sue,
We want to extend our condolences along with all your many friends and family. We loved Ray and thought very highly of him, as well as, you. We will never forget our wonderful times at CVBC. I was in your class for a while and always enjoyed your teaching. Ray was our Department leader and always had a story or two to tell. We loved him dearly. Some people just linger in your mind and are never forgotten. You and Ray are two of those.
With love and sympathy,
Ed & Latresa Colbert
