Obituary of Texie Gooch

Texie Gooch, age 95, of Detroit, passed away, Saturday, December 25, 2010, at Regency Healthcare Center in Clarksville. Mrs. Gooch and her husband Larkin were active in the area having operated a washeteria, as well as publishing the Detroit News. Both were members of the Lions Club and she was active in the Garden Club as well as the Midway Community Association. They also were active members of the Liberty Missionary Baptist Church in the Midway Community. Texie was born September 20, 1915 in the Midway Community of Red River County to Charley and Maud Chumley Flippo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Larkin Gooch; and a daughter, Karen Kay Burgess; her sisters, Miriam Malone, Mary Norwood, Lois Evans, Alma Flippo; her brothers, C.B. Flippo, Hansford Flippo and Douglas Flippo. Funeral services are set for 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 29, 2010, in Lindeman Chapel of Clarksville Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Ritchey and Rev. Calvin Permenter officiating. Burial will follow in Detroit Cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 11:30 until 12:30 at Clarksville Funeral Home. Survivors include her nephews, Charles M. Norwood, Bruce Evans, Ray Flippo; her nieces, Joyce Courtright, Arlene Lawley, Jean Maples; grand nephews, A.W. Doudney, John Foster, Neal Ritchey, Rev. Mark Ritchey, Charles S. Norwood; a grand niece; and other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are John Foster, Neal Ritchey, Ray Flippo, Bruce Evans, A.W. Doudney and J.L. Furr. Honorary Pallbearers are the Detroit Lions Club Members. Memorials may be made to the Texas Lions Camp, P.O.
