One good lawyer back in the late 60's and early 70's. We're sure of the same in his later years and as a judge. He will be sorely missed by many. Our prayers go out for his family.

We lament the passing of a colleague who was a scholarly, professional, and caring lawyer, and later judge, who made an enormous contribution to the legal profession and the judiciary through his many published law books and lectures and through his service as President of the Texas Trial Lawyers Association (1977-1978). He skilfully brought all this experience together to serve the public with distinction as a State District Judge at the culmination of his career. Let us not forget the non-law side of Jim Lovett, the guitar player, the singer of ballads and folksongs, the cook extraordinaire (Jim's Oriental Pepper Eggs), the connoisseur of fine wines, the multi-engine rated pilot, and award winning historian. Those of us who had the good fortune of knowing Jim will always treasure the impact he had on our lives.

Dearest Lovett Family: You & Jim Dick are in Elaine's and my hearts and prayers. His passing left a hole in my heart. Jim loved his family, the law, Texas (especially Red River), underdogs, fairness, good friends and a good time. And we loved him mightily for it. This giant left a great mark on many and will be missed and remembered.

I always deeply admired Uncle Jim as a child. When I was going through my divorce, I talked to him about some issues, and I realized how STRONG his convictions about children and their rights were! I always enjoyed visiting my Lovett cousins. What a wonderful family to be a part of. Aunt Annette and my cousins, you were so lucky. My heart goes out to you at this difficult time. Celebrate the life that was, and share all the good stories!! My prayers, my thoughts, and my love are with all of you. Love, Cathy

My condolences go to the family of Jim Dick Lovett. I worked with Jim on an East Texas history project a few years ago and found him to be a kind and thoughtful man with a sincere interest in history, particularly early Texas history. He forgave me for being born in Arkansas!
