Obituary of Mary H. Cross

Mary Hazel Sargent Cross, age 85, of Clarksville, passed away, Tuesday, February 21, 2012, at Brentwood Terrace Nursing Home in Paris. Mary was born May 13, 1926, the daughter of Ben and Sally Sargent of Clarksville. Mary was a long time resident of Clarksville. She was a long time member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 3990 in Paris. Mary was also the first certified Deputy Sheriff of not only Red River County, also the first female Deputy Sheriff in the state of Texas. She is survived by one son, Michael Rogers and wife Linda of Paris and one nephew, Eddie Sargent of Irving. Graveside services are set for 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 25, 2012, at Fairview Cemetery with Rev. James Brown officiating. Services are under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home.
