Obituary of Marshall Neal Gilbert
Marshall Neal Gilbert, age 91, of Clarksville, passed away Saturday, August 4, 2012.
Mr. Gilbert was born on February 21, 1921, in Enoch, Texas, the son of Joseph and Hattie Pritchett Gilbert. Neal served in the U.S. Army for four and one half years, being in the second armored “Hell on Wheels” division during WWII. He moved to Clarksville in 1953, with the family which owned Magnolia Brush Co. Mr. Gilbert was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Later Day Saints and served his church in various leadership capacities. He was active in both the Rotary and Kiwanis clubs. Neal also served as city Judge and sold many individuals their first car. During his retirement, he could be found on the golf course or in his legendary garden.
Neal was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Frieda, several brothers and sisters, including Olene Schultz and two grandchildren.
Services are planed for 10:00 a.m., Monday August 6, 2012, in Lindeman Chapel of Clarksville Funeral Home with Bishop Matt Terry and Elder Bytendorp officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends an hour before service time at the funeral home.
He is survived by his son, John and wife Charlsey Gilbert of Garland, daughters, Susan Marie Rayshell of Greenville, Cathy and husband Jim Ballantine of Clarksville and Betty Jo Gi of Clarksville, sisters, Nell Ledbetter of Longview and Doyce Jonson of Cypress, Ca. and brothers,
Weldon Gilbert of Gilmer, Benny Gilbert of Garland and James Gilbert of Leesville.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Stephanie Howell, Clint and wife Linsey Gilbert, Brad Rayshell, Carrie and husband Marty Gray, Kelly Peek, Leah and husband Jeremy Smith and Drue Ballantine. Great Grandchildren, Brandon Cameron, Dylan, Zoe, Knox, Kennedy, Emory, Lindsay, Cooper, Emilia, and Sidney. Also a niece, Helen and husband Eddie Pryor.
Casket Bearers are Clint Gilbert, Brad Rayshell, Drue Ballantine, Jeremy Smith, Blain Peek, Marty Gray and Michael Schneyder.
Honorary Casket Bearers are Kerry Murdock, R. G. Burris and Mike Davidson.
