Obituary of Mona Cook Vallance
Mona Frances Cook Vallance, 96 of Mount Vernon, Washington, formerly of Annona passed away Friday, August 10, 2012.
She was born May 25, 1916 to Edward M. and Mabel M. (Raleigh) Marsh in Annona, Texas. Mona was a homemaker and mother of three and had two green thumbs when it came to gardening, especially with Bromeliads. At the age of 50, she went back to school and earned her degree and teaching certificate. She taught for 15 years at Furr High School in Houston, TX before retiring in 1981. Mona was an active member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church; Eastern Star; the Bromeliad Society; and the Holiday RV Club, with whom she and her second husband, Glenn Vallance, traveled all around the country. She loved gardening, decorating, sewing, traveling and reading. Mona is survived by her son, Lewis Lee Cook, Jr.; her daughter, Cheryl Cook Walsh; her brother, Carl James Marsh; and two grandsons, Blake Aaron Smith and Joshua Neill Cook. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lewis Lee Cook; one daughter, Marsha Louise Cook; one brother, Demetrius Marsh; and one sister, Glenda Louise Marsh Martin.
Graveside services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 18, 2012, at Boxelder Cemetery with Rev. Don “Dink” Benton officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home.
