Obituary of Carl Roberts

Carl Roberts, Jr., “First Class Master Electrician Retired”, age 90, of Clarksville, passed away Saturday, October 06, 2012, at Regency Healthcare Center. Mr. Roberts was born September 26, 1922, in Clarksville to Carl and Ola McCoy Roberts. Carl enjoyed being around people. He loved dancing, fishing, telling jokes and camping whether at the lake or deer camp. He served in the U.S. Navy durning WWII and was a member of the Clarksville Voluteer Fire Department. "Play it Cool Carl", was famous for his Mileamore Potatoes. His hospitality made his deer camp a spot most local hunters visited opening weekend. The first time Carl made his potatoes, a hunter came by and said he believed he would have walked a mile or more just for the potatoes. The name has stuck, and today most Red River County camps have a pot of Mileamores over the fire. Carl married Eulala Bray Roberts on March 17, 1951, in Annona. She preceded him in death. He owned Modern Electric Service in Clarksville for many years and did not retire until he was in his 70’s. Graveside services will be Monday, October 8, 2012, at 2:30 p.m., at Old Shamrock Cemetery with Rev. James Brown officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home. The Patriot Guard Riders will escort the procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m, Monday at Clarksville Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Mark Marak, Kevin Kalmus, Brad Boykin, Bill Manning, Michael Humphrey and James Milam Roberts. Honorary Pallbearers are Johnny Jamison and H. V. Parker, Jr. and Billy Mitchell. Survivors include 2 daughters, Carlene Marak of Henderson and Sheila Manning of Longview; 3 granddaughters, Carrie Manning, Kristi Slice and Aaron Reinberg; his sister, Helen Parks; several nieces and nephews and two special friends, Frances Bachman and Bill Manning both of Clarksville.
