Obituary of Lane E. Duncan

Lane E. Duncan, age 91, of Avery, passed away, Thursday, November 22, 2012, at Good Sheppard Hosptial in Longview. Mr. Duncan was born April 14, 1921, in Avery to Earl and Veva Lane Duncan. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Sue Duncan; and a son, Jerry Duncan. He loved his church family and was a longtime member of the Avery Church of Christ. Mr. Duncan served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He retired from Red River County serving as Precinct 4 Commissioner from many years. Mr. Duncan also owned Duncan Constuction Company along with his son, Bruce. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved going to Colorado hunting deer and elk. Later in life he took up turkey hunting and this past spring at the age of 91, he bagged his last gobbler. Most of all Lane loved his family and friends. Funeral services are set for 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 24, 2012, in Lindeman Chapel of Clarksville Funeral Home with David Ingram and Rev. Roddy Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in Avery Cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Jerry Steward, Aubrey Cox, Lynn Warthan, Dean McPeak, Ronald Braden, John Lee Stanley and Chase Usrey. Honorary Pallbearers are Henry Freeman and the men of the Avery Church of Christ. The family will receive friends an hour before service time at Clarksville Funeral Home. Survivors include 3 sons, Bruce Duncan of Avery, Ricky Gandy and wife Teresa of Avery and Kenny Duncan and wife Donna of New Boston; 1 daughter, Brenda Riviere of Avery; his grandchildren, Darla Deter, Brad Duncan, Donna Rich, Deana Hudson, Stephanie Peek, Derrick Gandy, Dillion Gandy, Jennifer Riviere and Paige Duncan; 12 great grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Avery Cemetery Association at, P.O. Box 268, Avery, Texas 75554.
