Obituary of James Goodman

James Richard "Dick" Goodman, 61, was born in Clarksville, Texas, on March 29th, 1952, to James Ellis and Dixie Peek Goodman. He passed away Thursday, May 23rd at Hospice of East Texas in Tyler. Dick was graduated from Stephen F. Austin in 1974 with a Bachelors of Business Administration. He returned to Clarksville in 1977 to join his father at Goodman Insurance Agency which he owned and operated until retirement in 2010. Dick was an active member of McKenzie Memorial United Methodist Church and then Lake Fork Baptist Church in Alba. One of his passions in life was community service. On his return to Clarksville, Dick became an active member of the Clarksville Rotary Club. He was the recipient of numerous community service and citizenship awards. His life was dedicated to the service of his family, home, church and community. Dick was preceded in death by his parents James Ellis Goodman and Dixie Peek Goodman, step-mother Mary Payne Goodman and aunt Bonnie Jo Goodman Huddleston. Survivors include his wife, Karen Kirk Goodman; two sons, James Kirk Goodman of Tyler and Jeff Goodman and wife Dusty Goodman of Mt. Vernon; and one grand daughter, Madeline Goodman. Pallbearers include Jeff Arnold, Will Arnold, Wade Arnold, Charles Johns, John Ward, George Reese, James Vaughan, and Don Westbrook. Honorary pallbearers include the Clarksville Rotary Club and Lake Fork Baptist Volunteer Builders. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 25, 2013, at McKenzie Memorial United Methodist Church with Bishop Gary Mueller officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home.
