Obituary of Melvin F Anderson

Melvin Anderson, age 86, of Avery, passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at Heritage Nursing Center in Paris. Melvin was born October 17, 1926, in Annona to Will E. and Martha Dixon Anderson. Melvin enlisted in the U.S. Navy on August 3, 1944 and was honorably discharged after serving one year 7 months and 10 days as Motor Machinist's Mate, Third Class. He served his country during WWII on board the USS Barnwell and in San Diego and Ocean Side California. He received three medals during his service, the Victory Medal, the American Campaign Medal and the Asiatic-Pacific Medal. After serving his country, Melvin worked as a mechanic at Red River Army Depot. He was a hard working man and loved his friends and family. He was preceded in death by his wife Nillie Anderson, a son Allen Anderson and two sisters Ida Peek and Trudy Stinehauer. Funeral services are set for 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 21, 2013, at The First Baptist Church of Avery with Rev. Michael Churchill and Rev Harold Churchill officiating. Burial will follow in Avery Cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home. Survivors include a son, Jerry Anderson of Paris; a daughter, Karon Lisemby and husband Danny of Lubbock; a brother Edward Anderson of Athens; a sister Flossie Moss of Athens; 4 grandchildren, Jason Anderson and wife Michelle of Paris, Jill Anderson of Addison, Bettina Lisemby of Lubbock and Pamela Anderson and 6 great grandchildren, Alexis Anderson, Natalie Anderson, Ethan Anderson, Vanessa Anderson, Sadira Anderson and Stoney Anderson. Pallbearers are Jimmy Brookshire, Rickey Burleson, Joe Bearden, Ed Stephenson, Jason Anderson and Vernon Eastepp.
