Obituary of Annie M. Braginsky
Annie was born August 26, 1918 in Coleman Springs Community, Texas to Lela (Lipe) and Henry Mace. She passed on October 19, 2014 at Clarksville Nursing Center, Clarksville, Texas.
Annie grew up on a farm by Crystal Lake Road in Red River County. Her family grew tomatoes, watermelons and sweet potatoes. Tomatoes were taken to the tomato shed in Avery to be sold. Annie started milking at 4 years old. She often said she was the only grandkid who helped her Granny, Margaret Annie Mace Uzel milk. Annie started school at Boxelder and walked the 3 miles there the first year until the school had a bus. She graduated from Annona where she was on the basketball team.
Annie was probably always in trouble growing up. She stated she would chase down any boy who cut through their property so of course, they started going around the long way. Annie got up early to make biscuits every morning because, “ Papa liked my biscuits best”.
During World War II Annie moved to Wichita Falls, Texas and worked at a hospital lab with the “Sisters”. There she met her husband, Maurice Braginsky. The family moved many times during Colonel Braginsky’s Air Force career.
Annie was a hard worker all her life. She was an avid gardener and could make anything grow. Annie enjoyed sewing, knitting, playing bridge,42, bingo and was a wonderful cook. Annie loved birds and her cats most of all. She loved her house and pond. The pond later became known as “Granny’s Ocean.” She loved to see her grandkids fish. Annie was a plain talker, told it like is was and often startled people with her sense of humor.
Annie loved her children, she was very proud of all of them. She would take her car into Jerry Jackson Shop to get it serviced. She would sit there and knit and talk about all her kids.
Annie was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Maurice Braginsky, her parents, 3 sisters and 3 brothers.
