Obituary of James Edgar Humphries
.James Edgar “Eddie” Humphries, age 88, of Yantis, passed away, Thursday, January 01, 2015, at Westminster Buckner Nursing Home in Longview. Dr. Humphries was born January 28, 1926, in the Boxelder Community to Herbert Edgar and Belle Finlayson Upchurch Humphries. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Patsy Jean Humphries; 2 sons, Jimmy and John Humphries; and 3 grandsons, Charles, Sean and Wesley Ferguson. Mr. Humphries received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Texas A&M University and was in veterinary practice in Dallas for several years before being employed by the United States Department of Agriculture until retirement. Dr. Humphries served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific theater during WWII and received the Purple Heart medal during his service on Okinawa.
Dr. Humphries accepted and loved people and animals as they were. He was a positive role model and will be missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Angela Moore and husband, Brent of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Pamela Ferguson of New Orleans, Louisiana; 1 sister, Mary Catherine Grant of Boxelder; 5 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are set for 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 5, 2015, at the Boxelder United Methodist Church with the Rev. Don “Dink” Benton officiating. Burial will follow in Boxelder Cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home.
