Obituary of Robert J. Moody

Robert James “Bob” Moody, age 84, of Clarksville, passed away, Monday, February 02, 2015, at his residence. Mr. Moody was born, January 8, 1931, in Haskell, to A.J. and Opal Pearl Medford Moody. Bob received his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from Texas A&M University. He retired after 35 years as County Agent from the Red River County Extension Office. Bob was very active in his community; serving as past President of the Chamber of Commerce, past member of the Clarksville Rotary Club and a lifelong member of the Red River County Agricultural Improvement Association where he served as Fair Chairman until his retirement. Mr. Moody received the Distinguished Service Award from the Texas A&M Extension Service. He served as Staff Sgt. in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was a 32nd Degree Mason. He married Joye Elaine “Judy” Riggs on January 26, 1954. He was a member of the McKenzie Memorial United Methodist Church. Bob loved the outdoors, especially deer camp. He welcomed everyone into camp and if you were lucky enough, you got to try some of his famous squirrel stew. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Othella Moody. Graveside services are set for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 4, 2015, at Fairview Cemetery with Rev. James Brown officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home. Serving as Pallbearers are Victor Bishop, Derek Jones, Forrest Moody, Bryant Fortner, Matthew King, Parker Murphree, Aaron Murphree and Lee Lindeman. Honorary Pallbearers are R.D. Griffin, Lynn Golden, Rex Youngblood, Ken Neinast, Todd Berry, Jack Dean, Johnny Cates, Lawerence Vaughn and Billy Sam Allen. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Clarksville Funeral Home. Survivors include his wife, Judy Riggs Moody of Clarksville; his daughter, Melissa Moody King and husband, Gary of Sachse; son Craig Moody and wife, Janna Hartrick of Paris; grandchildren, Courtney King Thompson of Dallas, Matthew King of Sachse, Lauren Moody Fortner and husband,Bryant of Richmond, Forrest Moody of Richmond and Amy Moody of Paris; great grandchildren, James King and Molly Hope Thompson of Dallas and Benjamin Riggs Fortner of Richmond.
