Obituary of Bertie Mae McNew

Bertie Mae McNew, age 104, of Clarksville, passed away Thursday, December 17, 2015, at Clarksville Nursing Center. Bertie was born March 26, 1911, in Dimple to Charley and Mattie Raulston Brady. Mrs. McNew and her husband moved from Oklahoma City to Clarksville after retiring. She operated a beauty shop there for a number of years. She taught Sunday school, was the church clerk, helped in Bible School and sang for the church and funerals. She was also a program director for the young people’s program. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 3 sisters, Berta, Ruby and Jewel, and one brother, Henson. Honorary pallbearers are members of The Temple Baptist Church. The family will receive friends one hour before service time at Clarksville Funeral Home. Funeral services are set for 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 21, 2015, in Lindeman Chapel of Clarksville Funeral Home with Rev. James Hinkle officiating with Rev. Kelly Slaton assisting. Burial will follow in New Haven cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home. Survivors include her daughter, Geneva Sullivan of Paris, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and her Clarksville Nursing Center family.
