Obituary of Herbert Gary Warthan

Herbert Gary Warthan, longtime resident of Avery, Texas passed away Thursday, June 9, 2016 at Paris Regional Hospital, Paris, Texas. Gary is survived by a brother, Dr. Lynn Warthan and wife, Jackie of Nacogdoches; and a sister JoNell Donohue and husband, Kevin of Fort Worth and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Warthan was born January 1, 1941. He attended North Texas University and graduated with a masters degree in health and physical Education. While attending, he was a student teacher. Following that, he was a teacher and coach at O.D. Wyatt High School, Fort Worth, TX. Later, he moved back to Avery where he was employed at Red River Arsenal, New Boston, Texas. He also worked as a correctional officer at the Texas Corrections Facility in Texarkana, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents Herbert and Mary Warthan and a sister Jimmie Ann Warthan. Visitation will be Sunday, June 12,from 2:00 P.M. until 3:00 p.m.at Clarksville Funeral Home. Graveside services are set for 3:30 p.m., Sunday at Warthan Cemetery with Kevin Donohue officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home.
