Obituary of Leonard Blunt Crook

“Blunt” Leonard S. Crook, age 94, of the Negley Community, passed away, Monday, December 19, 2016, at his residence. Blunt was born February 23, 1922, in the Blanton Creek Community of Red River County to Frank Wylie and Emmie Skeen Crook. He was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 4 sisters. Blunt served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, where he won a Golden Glove Award with the U.S. Navy Boxing Team. He also loved rodeo and was a member of the RCA Rodeo Association. Blunt enjoyed growing things, whether grafting pecan trees or bringing different plants back from his trips around the country and planting them here in Red River County. Funeral services are set for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 21, 2016, in Lindeman Chapel of Clarksville Funeral Home with Rev. James Hinkle officiating. Burial will follow in Tuggle Springs Cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home. The family will receive friends an hour before service time at Clarksville Funeral Home. Pallbearers are, Gerald Jackson, Kenneth Henderson, Jeff Joplin, Craig Allston, Lane Breashear, , Shane Joplin, Raymond Long and Eric Hausler. Honorary Pallbearers are, Bobby Crook, Freddy Rodriguez, Jim Clark and Charles David Jackson. Survivors include his wife, Susan Goodwin Crook of the home; 1 daughter, Diane Breashear and husband, Jerry of Mt. Pleasant; 2 grandchildren, Lane Breashear of DeKalb and Charla Brown of Mt. Pleasant; several great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
