It was so sad for my husband Pete and me to learn about Eddie's death on December 24, 2016. Eddie and I were first cousins -- our fathers were brothers (Jack & O.V.), and were children of our Grandmother Mary Ann (Threadgill) Slaton [who was widowed during World War I as a result of our Grandfather Guth Slaton's death from the Flu Epidemic during World War I]. Mollie managed well, and was a talented and industrious woman.
Many Clarksville and Deport area residents knew our widowed Grandmother "Mollie" Slaton and her large family of children well, and loved her. We cousins grew up very close, and frequently traveled between Clarksville-Paris-Deport with our parents to visit their other brothers and sisters and their families. So, we got to know our cousins well, and a close bond was formed with these cousins and to our aunts and uncles. Eddie and Brother Brown conducted my mother Winnie's funeral services in November 1996, and the sweet stories her minister and Eddie told about their experiences were priceless.
Unfortunately, Pete and I have lived long distances from Red River County since we married in 1951, and we have not had the close bonding experiences with our cousins' children and families that Eddie and I had with ours growing up -- but would have loved that! Today, I grieve my Cousin Eddie’s death, not only as a cousin, but also like another brother. My brother Tom has been dead for a number of years. We also grieve for every member of Eddie's family. We hope soon the joy of memories outweigh the sadness! Love to all of you.

When he laughed it made me laugh he was such a happy person so easy to talk to and be around Brother Eddie had a great sense of humor and a come back for everything . He Loved the Lord and it showed , his Light would shine everyday as a disciple and servant of Jesus Christ.
To be absent from the body is to be present before the Lord. Hallelujah! Amen
Brother Eddie is in the presence of Jesus Christ , our Father and our God. Amen
We love you Brother Eddie ✝️ The Wilkerson Family❤️

I remember Eddie when I was a child when his dad and mom, Uncle Jack and Aunt Lucy lived in Riverside. Eddie was always a family member that I looked forward to seeing. When his family moved back to Clarksville, I would see Eddie off and on when he came to Riverside, CA to visit. When I lived in Paris, TX at age 11, I always wanted to go to Eddie and Charlene's house because I enjoyed being there. It has been many years since I have seen Eddie, but I always remember his hospitality and the stories he would tell (that must be a Slaton thing). Eddie was a good man and cared about people. I never heard Eddie preach, but I know that he loved teaching people about God. I know Eddie will be missed by all, especially Charlene, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
