Obituary of Gerald Carey

Gerald Carey, age 76, of Avery, passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at his residence.

Gerald was born May 25, 1940, in Hopewell Community to Albert and Lola Newman Carey.  Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Phillip Carey, his sister, Violet M. Davis and brother, Albert Jr. Carey.

He was a free spirit, music was his life and everyone who knew him loved him.  Gerald’s presence and music will live forever in the lives of his family and friends.  His last gig, which he looked forward to every Sunday, was playing steel for his church family at the RR Cowboy Church in Clarksville Tx. where he will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Yvonne Carey of Avery; 2 daughters, Kathy Carter and Robin Zastawnik; 1 sister, Marsha Carey Poole; 7 grandchildren, Crystal King, Trina Young, Chace Rains, Casey Carey, Christina Carter, Adrian Blood and Christian Zastawnik and 6 great grandchildren. 

Mr. Carey will be cremated and to honor his last wishes there will be on memorial service.
