Obituary of John Stefen Segleski
John Stefen “Steve” Segleski, age 70, of Clarksville, passed away Monday, May 08, 2017, at his residence.
Steve was born February 23, 1947, in Clarksville to John and Lucille Segleski, the oldest of their four sons. As a child, Steve traveled with his mom and younger brother Mike to rodeos at Boston Gardens, Madison Square Garden and The Cheyenne Frontier Days watching his dad ride bulls, and meeting Roy Rogers, Gene Autry and The Lone Ranger. He always looked forward to their trips to Connecticut to visit his grandparents and Aunt Wanda and Uncle Charlie. His Uncle Charlie took him to Yankee Stadium where he watched some of the great Yankee teams.
Steve loved his family and cared for his parents in their last years. He especially enjoyed playing with his nieces and nephews in the backyard and always had candy and soft drinks for them at his house. He loved the holidays and at Thanksgiving and Christmas he always contributed to the meal with his special smoked hams.
Steve graduated from Clarksville High School in 1966 and worked as a butcher at the Reed’s Grocery, Hardee’s Supermarket, Pea Ridge Packers and the Food Basket, almost never missing a day of work. After retiring he went back to work part time at Rehkopf’s Foods.
Steve enjoyed sports and never missed a Texas Ranger, Dallas Cowboy, or Texas Longhorn game. He inherited his mother’s love of flowers and continued to take care of the flower beds she had started many years ago.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lucille Segleski and his grandparents, Buck and Lurettie Davis and Stanley and Alice Segleski.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 10, 2017, from 12:30 to 1:30p.m. at Clarksville Funeral Home.
Graveside services are set for 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at Madras Cemetery with Rev. Mark Gossett officiating. Burial is under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home.
