Obituary of Beverly Lucille Shelby

Beverly Lucille Shelby, age 81, of Detroit, Texas, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 1, 2010, at Kindred Hospital, Arlington, Texas. Funeral services are set for 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 5, at Martin Memorial United Methodist Church in Detroit with Rev. Dennis Cates officiating. Interment will follow in Detroit Cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Jamie Miller, Johnny McCoin, Curtis Arrasmith, Harry Scoggins, Jack Burns and Carroll Denison. Mrs. Shelby was born on April 26, 1929, in Avon, Connecticut, to Wylie and Marjorie Swain. She was graduated from Farmington High School and married Malcolm Shelby of Detroit on September 18, 1948. She was a retired Superintendent’s secretary of Detroit High School, and a member of Martin Memorial United Methodist Church, and was church treasurer. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, four brothers, Edwin Swain, Eldwin Swain, Warren Swain, Roger Swain and great grandson, Matthew White. She is survived by daughter, Debbie & husband Mike Moreland of Reno; son, Billy Shelby and wife Terrie of Detroit; daughter, Gale Roberson of Paris; grandchildren, Jennifer Lewis of Arlington, Amy White and husband Kenneth of Paris, Brandon Shelby and wife Jennifer of Sherman, Brett Shelby & fiancé Ardra Ragan of Frisco, Jimmy Moreland and wife Brittany of Powderly; great grandchildren, Katelyn & Blake White of Paris, and Will and Charlie Shelby of Sherman; a sister, Dorothy Stavola of Farmington, Connecticut; along with numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. She was the co-founder of Nan’s Clothing Closet of Detroit where she worked with several members of the church. She always enjoyed cooking and Christmas was her favorite time of the year. She enjoyed quilting at the church with her friends, gardening and canning, working in her flower beds, fishing and was an avid painter and painted several beautiful scenery paintings. She loved to go shopping with her daughters and granddaughters. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
