Obituary of Louise Brown

Louise Grant Brown, age 100, of Annona, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, Saturday, January 27, 2018, in Texarkana.  Mrs. Brown was born, March 24, 1917, in the Swanville Community of Red River County to Erie Dowdy and Mary Elizabeth Bryant Grant.  She married Harold Lawson Brown on December 22, 1940 and he preceded her in death in 1993 after 56 years of marriage.  2 brothers, William Grant and Bryant Grant also preceded her in death.   Mrs. Brown graduated from Annona High School in 1934 and received her Bachelors of Education from East Texas State Teachers College in Commerce.  Her career started in a one room school house in the Swanville Community of Red River County.  In her 41 years of teaching, she taught school at Swanville, Annona and Clarksville.  Her favorite assignment was 4th grade.  Mrs. Brown was a faithful Methodist as evidenced by her services at Williams Chapel United Methodist Church and the Annona United Methodist Church where she worked in the church nursery and sang in the choir.   After retirement she spent her time cooking, hunting, “looking for the Hartford”, playing 42, attending social events and spending time with her family.  “Mimi”, as she was fondly called, was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and will be remembered and loved my many.

Funeral services are set for 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 29, 2018, in Lindeman Chapel of Clarksville Funeral Home with Rev. James Brown and Rev. Don “Dink” Benton officiating.  Burial will follow in English Cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends an hour before service time at Clarksville Funeral Home.

Pallbearers are Joe Preston, Chris Francis, Andy Sherley, John Crawford, Carroll Willis, Kevin Sanborn and Morris Gates.  Honorary Pallbearers are all of Mrs. Brown’s former students.

Survivors include 1 daughter, Carolyn Folse and husband, Roy of Texarkana; 1 grandson, Tad Meredith and wife, Aime’e of Texarkana; great grandchildren, Daniel Meredith and Allie Meredith; 2 nieces, Nina Sherley and Sarah Francis; 1 nephew, Jonathan Grant; and a number of great nieces, nephews and cousins.
