Obituary of W. D. Rhodes

W.D. “Dub” Rhodes, age 91, was born in Cisco, Texas on May 9, 1919, to Harvey and Alma Rhodes. He passed away Monday, December 20, 2010 at ETMC. He graduated from McMurry University in Abilene, Texas with a B.S. Degree in 1940. He served 4 years during World War II in the Army Medical Corps. He came to Clarksville in 1946 where he owned and operated the Rhodes Clinical Lab for 38 years. Dub was a member of the McKenzie Memorial United Methodist Church for 60 years and served the church in many positions. He received a Continuous Service Award for 60 years from the American Legion Post #45. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce and received the George Sunkel Award and a Community Service Award. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club for 55 years and received the Legion of Honor Award and Outstanding Service Award. He also received the Rotary Club Paul Harris Fellow Award. He served many years on the Board of Directors of the Industrial Foundation. He was an active member of Pride for many years. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Ruth, and one sister, Alice Cole of Cleburne, Texas. Survivors include one son, Charles Reynolds (Dusty) Rhodes of Houston; two daughters, Carole Lynne Crawford and son-in-law, Nathan Crawford of Las Vegas, Nevada and Rhonda Lucille Strelke and son-in-law, Bill Strelke of Long Grove, Illinois; one nephew, David Glenn Cole and wife, Linda of Cleburne, Texas; nine grandchildren, Autumn and husband Robin Scott of College Station, Texas, Aimee and husband Steve Robinson of Dallas, Texas, Ashley and husband Kelly Oliver of Houston, Texas, Alexis and husband Cory Valentine of Houston, Texas, Jana and husband Mark Hall of Keller, Texas, Candice and husband Chris Perry of Hughes Springs, Texas, S/SGT. Zachary Strelke and wife Marion of Bean, North Carolina, Lt. Dan Strelke of Wichita Falls, Texas, Cara Strelke of Austin, Texas; eleven great grandchildren, Kiley, Trip and Kennedy Rhodes Scott, Dusty Paul Cooper, Taylor Lynne and Mark Wayne Hall, Cole and Logan Strelke and Pearl, Hunter and Paige Lee Perry. Pallbearers are Ben Black, W.R. Freeman, James Vaughan, T.J. Higgins, Jim Clark and R.G. Burris. Honorary Pallbearers are the Layman Sunday School Class, Members of Pride and Dick Goodman. A viewing will be held Wednesday, December 22, 2010, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Clarksville Funeral Home. Family and friends are invited. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 23, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at McKenzie Memorial United Methodist Church with Jerry Colgrove officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the McKenzie Memorial United Methodist General Fund or Choir Fund at 1809 S.
