Obituary of Robert B. Puckett
Robert Blaine (Bobby) Puckett went to be with the Lord on September 7, 2010, at ETMC Clarksville.
Funeral services are to be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 10, 2010, at the First Baptist Church in Clarksville with Rev. Mark Gossett, Loren Stephens and Rev. Glen Scott officiating. Burial will follow at Cooper’s Chapel Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are Trey Puckett, Sammy Puckett, Paul Puckett, Shane Harvey, Mark Jones, Craig Jones, Stephen Jones, Michael Jones, Brandon Harvey, Rick Duren, Chris Harvey, James Harvey and Curtis Harvey.
Honorary Pallbearers are Roy Maye, Jimmy Peek, Leon Blake, Eddie Hausler, Norris Ballard, Loren Stephens, Coy McGregor, Jamie Barham, Clyde Carlisle, Robert Manley, Johnny Crawford and Allen Callahan.
Mr. Puckett was born January 9, 1943, in Goose Creek, Texas to George C. and Bernice Merideth Puckett. He married the love of his life, Sandra Harvey, January 21, 1961, at Annona United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother George C. Puckett, Jr.
Survivors include his wife Sandra of Clarksville; two sons, Blaine and wife Kristi of Clarksville and Bryce Puckett of Clarksville; two brothers, Neil Puckett of Annona and Jake Puckett of Jenkins; a sister, Anne Martin of Clarksville; grandchildren, Devin Puckett, Zachery Puckett, Haley Puckett, Dylan Puckett and Whitney Harden; numerous nieces and nephews. Survivors also include many friends and students.
Mr. Puckett graduated from Annona High School in 1961 and attended Paris Junior College on a basketball scholarship. He is a 1965 graduate of East Texas State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Science and Physical Education. He completed his Masters in 1968 in Administration and Physical Education and received his Mid Management certificate at Texas A&M in Commerce. He began his teaching and coaching career in 1965 in the Paris Independent School District where he taught and coached at Crockett Junior High School until the spring of 1973. Coach Puckett came back to Clarksville in 1973 as the head boy’s basketball coach and continued his career as a coach and teacher at Clarksville Schools. He was named principal at Clarksville High School in 2001 and remained in this position until his retirement.
Coach Puckett had a special love for his students. He was a strong advocate of public education during his teaching career encouraging his students to excel in their studies and become leaders in their community. One of his greatest pleasures was coaching and watching Clarksville High School sports. As a teacher and coach, Bobby’s moto was “I get to do every day what I would like to be doing on my day off”. He was an avid sportsman and a “crack” shot whether hunting or playing basketball.
