Obituary of Mary Virginia Atkins

Mary Virginia Atkins, age 97, of Clarksville, passed away Monday, February 5, 2018, at Stillhouse Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, in Paris.  Virginia was born, August 8, 1920, in Clarksville to Len Marion and Martha Smith Hulen.  She was baptized in the Church of Christ in 1941, by Brother Bob Parker.  Virginia married Chester Bert “Jack” Atkins on January 13, 1940, in Clarksville.  She graduated from Detroit High School in 1936 and Paris Junior College in 1938.  Virginia taught school at Russel’s Chapel and Lanes Chapel.  Later she was employed by P.T. Taylor Hardware and several motor companies in the area.  She retired after 39 years of faithful employment to the Clarksville Funeral Home.  She spent a lifetime of volunteering   her time at the Bonham V.A. Hospital, the Clarksville Chamber of Commerce and the Clarksville Nursing Center.  She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary where she won many awards and served as President for 3 years and held almost all chairs in District 1. 

Survivors include 3 sons, Dr. B.J. Atkins and wife, Annette of Hunstville, Ed Atkins and wife, Alice of Detroit and Jim Atkins and wife Sook of Dallas; grandchildren, Wade Atkins and wife, Christy, Lisa Gargaloff and husband, Joaquin, Stacy Pinter and husband, Erik, Joel Atkins, Ashley Atkins and fiancé, Lincoln Jones;  and 8 great grandchildren.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 8, 2018, in Lindeman Chapel of Clarksville Funeral Home with Steve Marx officiating.  Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home.

Pallbearers are Nathan Homer, Jerry Jones II, Wade Atkins, Scott Lindeman, Lee Lindeman, Joel Atkins, Darrell Dunham and Jason Hulen.

Visitation will be an hour before service time at Clarksville Funeral Home.
